Wanting To Be little – 10 Weight Loss Tips For littles

January is long loooooong gone. As are the goals you may have set as your new year’s resolution (to exercise more, get organized, and… gah, lose weight). It was easy to feel hopeful as the new year approached, and to feel successful the first 24 hours after the clock struck midnight; but then life got in the way, and now its the end of August and summer is about to be over. It is NOT too late.

Daddy and i are both bigger than we want to be, and are embarking on our own weight loss journey. No pressure from the “New Year”, just excitement that we still have four months to prove to 2017 that we did take control (even if it took us eight months to get there). i am not sure where you are all at, or if this will even be interesting for our readers. Please let me know in the comments if you would like more posts like this?! Our journey is just beginning and i am sure we will learn a lot more along the way.

i am not saying any one of you has to change in order be “little”. Being a little has nothing to do with your age, weight, sex, height, or even health. Being little is who you truly are in your heart and soul. i believe everyone gets to choose where they are happiest with their bodies, and no one person’s journey is going to be the same as another’s. All that i can speak for is my own journey and what i am currently working on in my life.

Here are my 10 weight loss tips for littles!

  1. Drink a LOT of water!
i have a ton of cute little cups, sippies, and sports bottles that i like to fill up and drink water all day. If you don’t really like the taste of water, you can always add flavors like lemon, lime, berries, mint, cucumber, etc.
  2. Keep track of what you eat!
i like to use the myfitnesspal app on my phone. It helps me to realize what i am actually eating before i eat it. It not only tracks your calories, but it also tracks your exercise, water intake, and weight.
  3. Make yourself a goal board!
i use a cork board to post my goals, pictures that motivate me, quotes, and a list of rewards for when i reach certain goals. Honestly, you can put anything on it that will help with your own success. Be creative!
  4. Start small with exercise!
It is way too easy to set your goals too high, and then burn out quickly. The first step is to figure out what you enjoy doing (walking, bike riding, hiking, yoga, lifting weights, running, etc). Once you figure that out, start implementing it into your week. Maybe try doing one or two activities a week, and slowly increase over time.
  5. Do it with a friend!
Ask a friend, your Daddy, or join a club to help with your journey. Feeling alone on your journey is a recipe for failure. Even if you don’t have someone who wants to do it with you, you can always ask for someone to help hold you accountable to your goals and be a listening ear when you are struggling.
  6. Take the stairs!
i know you hear it all the time, but think of that as more of a mantra. Use it as a way of reminding yourself that there are little ways to fit exercise into your daily life (walk to the grocery store, park in the back of the lot, use the stairs, etc).
  7. Don’t eat after 8pm!
This one is hard. Especially if you are awake late. But did you know that stopping late night snacking can save you 300 or more calories per day? Or 31 pounds a year? Good enough of a reason for me!
  8. Eat a snack!
Wait, what? No, really… go ahead and snack if you are hungry. Just be aware of what you are snacking on. Try baby carrots, cut up cucumber, baby tomatoes, celery, lean sliced turkey, grapes, strawberries, etc. Put them in a cute little dish and munch away. Just be sure to add it to your food log, because even snack calories count.
  9. Pamper yourself!
Instead of eating something unhealthy while you are out, buy yourself something pretty instead. Rather than mindlessly watching TV, take a long bath and give yourself a facial. Change is hard, so finding ways to distract yourself can help (color a picture, play with toys, paint your nails, organize your closet, go for a walk, etc).
  10. Go easy on yourself!
This is a journey, and every road has twists and turns, ups and downs, and even dead ends. If you mess up and eat an entire cheesecake, don’t give up and say the day is already ruined or that you can restart again on Monday. Every hour is a chance to start fresh and win what you want out of this.

The toughest part is that change is hard in a long term sense. It’s easy to change for a little while and even easier to fall back into old habits. i read something that said it takes 21 days to learn a new habit. So it is possible! xoxo
